I’ve been to Minami (and Miku) a fair few times, both with a big party and with smaller numbers, and now I’m finally sitting down to talk about them.
Minami’s specialty is their aburi sushi and let me tell you, it gives you a mouth orgasm. The umami and the aftertaste is pure joy.
So I’ll just talk about this one particular visit as its the only one where I brought an actual camera. The atmosphere inside during the evening is all dimmed lights and candles so I apologize for the grainy/blurriness of the shots.
As an appetizer we started off with the Aburi Beef Carpaccio. It’s nice and light and I love breaking the yolk in the middle and having it together with the greens on the side.
The Salmon Oshi Sushi and Ebi Oshi Sushi. There is a constant debate in my family whenever we go about whether the Ebi is better or the Salmon which my mom switching sides every other time. We always order both, and most of the time we will order two orders. I can say that this is the biggest reason that I love Minami so much. I just can’t get enough of their aburi sushi. It is THAT good.
Red Wave Roll is basically california roll without the cucumber but with thin slices of red tuna wrapped. The little bits on the top is from their masatake sauce. Most of their rolls and aburi sushi are drizzled with some housemade sauce of theirs and don’t require soy sauce. So keep in mind, and hold back on the soy sauce as its flavorful enough already!
Minami Roll is wrapped in aburi short rib. The short rib is tender and torched slightly and goes perfectly with the spicy prawn and wasabi masatake sauce.
Not shown here but I would also recommend ordering some of their nigiri sushi and ask for it to be made aburi style for an extra $0.25. All the aburi nigiri sushi will come drizzled with a housemade sauce and they all go really well with the fish. Some of my aburi nigiri sushi favorites include the sockeye salmon and hokkaido scallop.
