Money, money, money

by chiseen

Been thinking about money a lot since I started working full-time. Of course, one of the main reason would be because I started living by myself in a foreign country, so I need to keep my finances afloat so I can survive and afford the things that I want.

Obviously I had to be extra careful with my spending during my first 6 months to a year here. The startup cost of moving to a new country isn’t cheap and it also takes a few months before you start getting your full pay and all that. But now I’ve been living in Japan for 2 years and 4(?) months. I moved to a bigger place and moved-in with my boyfriend. I also have a new job. Living with another person helps save so much money in terms of rent, bills, and food. So now instead of simply saving for daily necessities/hobbies, I’ve shifted into starting to think about savings for the future.

Honestly it stresses me out to think about all the money I need for the future or should have saved up already by now but I guess you gotta start somewhere, right? Better late than never.

I listened to a talk about money matters and investment to help come up with the money for life after retirement because everyone knows Japan’s pension system is flawed and won’t even be enough for the bare minimum. The speaker gave a lot of good tips and I’d definitely like to follow some of them in the near future. I’d love to be able to hop on right away but I should probably work on setting aside my first tiny chunk of savings, and then go on from there. Would probably also need to wait until I get a higher pay grade to be able to AFFORD investment.
