Marulilu Cafe

By chiseen · Comments (0)
Monday, October 20th, 2014

I’ve been to Marulilu plenty of times and I keep going back. I’ve just visited them three times in a month so I reckon I should sit down and write about them properly. Marulilu Cafe is a Japanese-run establishment that serves breakfast all day. So unfortunately they aren’t open for dinner service (closes at 6pm).

The place is tiny and operates kind of like a food court style. You’ll be seated with the menus and then when you are ready, you go up to the counter to order and pay first. When the food is ready, they will bring it to your table. During weekends, the place fills up quickly but they don’t take reservations. The prices are also very reasonable and portions are decent.

Marulilu Cafe
They have the traditional western-style breakfast plates as well as eggs benny. I’m not a huge fan of eggs benedict so out of the numerous times I’ve been there, I never tried it. But I always see other customers order it and it looks delicious. Read More→

Scrubs? Stethoscope? What else do I need??

By chiseen · Comments (0)
Monday, October 13th, 2014

It’s Thanksgiving long weekend here and I had a day off today so my family and I all went out for brunch together. The plan was to go and take a look at scrubs afterwards as the restaurant we went to was in the same area as Uniform Central. It was nice as it’s been a while since my day offs coincided with my brother’s so that we could have a family lunch.

Marulilu Cafe

We went to Marulilu for a late brunch and I got the Japanese style breakfast with tofu along with a hot milky caramel latte. Mmmhmm! We went over to check out scrubs and see what their selection of stethoscopes were like at Uniform Central. I’m really liking the Grey’s Anatomy scrubs as the fabric feels so soft and stretchy but I read somewhere that as comfy as it is, they found the two pockets not enough to hold everything they needed during clinicals. Tokyo July 2014 Trip – Day 2

.:Day 2 – Disney Sea:.

Day 2First breakfast in Japan. Chocolate bread from the combini

https://chiseen.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/IMG_5450.mp4

Perhaps we were feeling a little ambitious, but Disney Sea was our first attraction for our first full day in Tokyo. It partly ended up being that day as it was the only day we could go before the long weekend and after that long weekend signified the true beginning of summer when the park will be packed everyday. After consulting a Japanese website before our departure that will give you the forecast for attendance numbers each day based on numbers at the park in the past years, it turns out this day would have the least number of people. Brunch at Basho Cafe

Basho Cafe

After hearing much hype about the new Japanese family-run-type Basho Cafe, I was raring to go try. Excitedly, I grabbed my camera and Sir Durr along and we putted all the way down to the east side to check it out. When you go inside, you are greeted with the the chalkboard menu on the wall and then you will order and pay at the counter first before sitting down. I took out my DSLR to snap pictures of the cute decor only to found out that I had forgotten to put my memory card back in after loading all the photos into my computer! D: So that’s why despite having visited Basho Cafe back in August, I’m only posting about it now. I was waiting for when I would go revisit with a proper camera to talk about them but realize now that that might be a while. ^^;

Gyoza Bar

I’m a great fan of Miku & Minami, the aburi specialty sushi sister restaurants. When I first heard that they would be opening up a new restaurant that would specialize in gyoza, I was stoked.
A gyoza joint run by my favorite aburi joint?? I couldn’t wait to try them. Their grand opening was on September 6th, so I decided to go there for my birthday at the end of the month.

I got accepted into nursing!!!
The header photo is the one that Sir Durr sent me right after I told him the news. Pretty much summed up my feelings at the time.

I was at work sending a text to my boss (who was off) about something work related when a new e-mail from the school popped up in notifications. This was my third time applying to the program and having been placed on the waitlist both times, I had a pretty good idea how the process works. E-mail said to check my application status and I figured it was the shortlist e-mails going out as the application deadline was just a week ago. Despite knowing that, my heart was still pounding as I tried twice before I was able to log onto my account successfully. When the page loaded on my phone, the words “Accept – Conditional” greeted me. I was in shock. I was not just shortlisted, but I was accepted before the usual standard shortlist questionnaire!

I’m usually very calm and level-headed. But when the news finally hit me, tears just started rolling. It was that feeling of relief and finally seeing all the hard work and effort that I put in finally rend some results. I called my mom immediately and she was almost yelling into the phone as she was so excited for me!

Besides myself, I know of two other applicants who also received their acceptance offers without having to do the short list questionnaire. All of us had applied during the previous intake and had been waitlisted, hence I think that’s why we didn’t need to re-do the questionnaire as I assume it is most likely the same format and questions.

Today was my day off, so I spent it going around town to find my immunization records for school. I’ve also already signed up for a CPR-HCP courses in November. I can’t stress how excited I am. It feels like I have so much to do and prepare for before school starts in January!
